In early life he was poor, industrious and savings.
Success attended his efforts as a merchant in the
town of Petersburg; and in his latter days was
one of the most zealous and efficient supporters
of all schemes connected with the improvement
of the town; as Husband he was affectionate,
as Father tender and generous, as Master
humane and indulgent. He was born near this
spot on the 21st day of March A.D. 1794
and died at his residence on Old St. Jan. A.D. 1837.
Only this stone removed from the Heath Grave yard
about 8 miles east of here for preservation year 1927.
